Gen:
Of course I've been, he told me like a month ago he would get me shades so I thought, if this kid was on a trip, that he would have brought souvenirs.
Gen:
Why was he in Canada? He told absolutely nothing to Viktor.
Zo:
No idea. I forgot to ask because I was kinda sulking. I think it had something to do with his beastly side.
Zo:
'Sides, have you thought about whether those two will set up some sort of dinner with their parents? I dread to think.
Gen:
Do you know if he got me the shades he promised? Oh, nevermind. I have just returned from the trip, Viktor passed out in my bed and not in a sexy way.
Gen:
Oh, is she? God, I am not even texting her
[thirty seconds later after replying a text from Vivienne]
Gen:
Nope, not at all.
Zo:
Like I asked about your freaking shades, Gen. Turns out he went to Canada or something and that's where he's been for the past few weeks. Anyway, I thought you were mad at him for not being there for me?
Momma:
Stop this. Stop acting hateful when I'm trying to fix what happened. If your sister has the decency to at least talk to me, so can you.
Zoey:
THERE IS NOTHING TO FIX! I'm doing perfectly well without you. I have great friends, a boyfriend whom I trust and care about, and you didn't have to give that to me. I'm not being hateful. I'm reacting the way I should react when the woman that abandoned them as a child comes back.
Zoey:
And don't bother making comparisons because I'm not my sister. We're two very different people, and if you want to talk to one of your so-called 'daughters' then go looking for the great and mighty Genevieve because you'll get nothing out of me.
Momma:
I asked the school if they could give me it. I've got your birth certificate, darling, it's not as if I'm snooping around.
Momma:
If respecting your self-appointed name will stop some of the resentment towards me, then I'll do my best.
Zoey:
Why can't you just leave me alone instead of going to stalkerish measures? I don't want you in my life, and I never will, can you understand that? Don't come near me. Don't TEXT me. Don't butt in where you're not fucking wanted.
“So, wait.” Joseph sat back, a bit stunned. “You’re sisters? Like blood sisters?” His hands folded into his lap as he thought on what that meant. “Does that make each of you dating one of my family weird?” He tried to force a smile, but it was more than a bit disheartening to hear that someone could do that to Zoey and Genevieve.
“Yup. Blood sisters. Ain’t that just tragic?” Zoey remarked with a sarcastic roll of her eyes as she thought about just how coincidental it all was. Still, it could have been worse. It could have turned out that she was related to the Loupes and then where would she be? “And if it’s weird, just remember that we started dating first, which means they’re the weird ones.” After a moment, she sighed and added, “Let’s not linger on that…”
Always seen as pure hearted, the girl was of a kind nature and good intentions. At least that was people thought of her, yet she was certain a darkness was starting to take over from deep inside. As long as she had it under control it was all alright, but she would have lied by saying she wasn’t upset or annoyed “Sorry, Zo. Is there anything wrong with it? Because I’m feeling real judged by that look of yours… If I wasn’t allowed to change and grow up due other’s reactions I apologize. I didn’t get the bloody memo”
Zoey thought about it for a moment, carefully considering her answer with a watchful eye and crossed arms. Unclenching her jaw, she finally let herself speak. “What’s your point?” She asked calmly, raising her brow a bit as she spoke and leaned back into her chair. Changes like this came wtih a reason, and a rather drastic one at that. Zoey’s reason had been because she wanted to seem stronger than she really was, a facade that had begun to crumble in recent days. Now she was wondering what Daisy’s was. “Behind your ‘growing up’. What’s your point?”
“It was best if nobody knew for the time being. Not even my family knew, because Vik would’ve chased me down and tried to give me a lesson about being a wolf.” He scrunched his face up a bit in mock disgust before his expression softened again. “I heard about the teacher thing. And a mother? Like… adoption or something?”
The ever present pout finally disappeared, and she stared down at her hands that were still moving against the wood. Despite her current demeanour, she had actually missed Joseph and was feeling somewhat calmer just being beside him. “Yeah, she was… psycho.” Zoey answered, lifting her gaze to look out of the window and watched the cars pass by outside. “And mother as in, she abandoned me as a child and let me grow up in conditions close to poverty where I starved during the day, only for her to come back twenty three years later to call both Genevieve and I into her office and drop the bomb on us.”
“Yeah, but you know Boston winters.” He shrugged off the name, lifting his head after a moment. “Fill me in on what’s happened, babe. At least let me know why you’re so upset at my absence.” His hand found her soft hair and he twisted a lock around his finger as he waited for her to speak.
The Loupes really were out of the loop, weren’t they? The easiest way to explain what had happened to her would probably have been to show him, but she wasn’t going to do that here. She moved on to another topic instead. “Nothing much,” Zoey began, straightening back up in her seat and tracing the grooves in the table. “Crazy teacher got executed. Genevieve’s dating your brother. You went away and didn’t text your girlfriend or tell her where you went, which definitely didn’t send her crazy, and I have apparently acquired a mother.”
