“Oh, that’s the only reason we can’t be friends?” She laughed and turned her head into the sun, closing her eyes. “It wasn’t exactly planned, you know. And she carries your best friend’s DNA. You might actually like her.” Scout highly doubted Zoey would enjoy spending time with Valerie, but she didn’t mind putting the thought into her brain. “What if she has the gene? What am I supposed to do if she ends up being like you?”
“If she ends up being like me then you should probably check your parenting skills.” Zoey joked halfheartedly, returning her attention to her guitar. Somehow Scout kept turning up at her door whether she wanted her to or not. It was a good and a bad thing all at the same time and it always made her wonder why she bothered to show up. “If you ever leave her with me, I’m gonna run for the hills and never look back.”
